Shawn Garber, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Shawn Garber, MD, has performed more than 3,500 gastric bypass surgeries and more than 3,000 adjustable gastric band procedures and over 300 laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy procedures. He developed the Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) procedure for gastric banding and gastric sleeve gastrectomy and is the first surgeon on Long Island to utilize these procedures. Dr. Garber’s bariatric program was ranked in the top 5% of all bariatric programs in the U.S by HealthGrades™ for the past 6 years in a row. He is a featured expert on TV programs such as ABC News, NBC News and has been on many talk shows discussing obesity surgery including the Dr. Oz Show and the Montel Williams Show. In addition, the New York Times, New York Magazine and Newsday named him as one of the top bariatric surgeons in the New York area. Dr. Garber lectures and teaches surgeons across the United States on the SILS Adjustable Gastric Banding and sleeve gastrectomy procedures.
John Angstadt, MD,FACS, FASMBS
John Angstadt, MD, has performed more than 850 weight loss procedures including 400 gastric bypass, 340 adjustable gastric banding and 110 sleeve gastrectomy and has extensive experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Angstadt trained with Robert Marema, MD, a renowned bariatric surgeon in South Florida. He has been featured on television and speaks regularly on issues concerning the management of obesity. Prior to joining New York Bariatric Group, Dr. Angstadt founded and developed the only bariatric surgery program in South Georgia. His efforts took the program to certification as a Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation.

Pankti R. Patel, MD
Dr. Patel is certified by the American College of Surgeons and fellowship-trained in Minimally Invasive Surgery. She holds a certification for the Da Vinci Robotic system and has performed both bariatric and revisional surgeries.
Dr. Patel received a medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, performed a residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria and completed a fellowship training at University of Pittsburg Medical Center. She brings her expertise to Long Island's St. Charles Hospital, where she focuses on robotic and minimally invasive surgery for weight loss.
Dr. Candice Chipman, MD
Dr. Chipman completed her Bariatric Fellowship at Abington-Jefferson Hospital in Abington, PA. At Abington, she began performing biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, a procedure which combines a sleeve gastrectomy with an intestinal bypass to create long-term weight loss. Abington is one of the busiest duodenal switch centers in the Eastern United States. Chipman incorporates this procedure, the first of its kind on Long Island, into her practice and performs the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch utilizing the hospital’s new, fourth generation da Vinci robot.
