St. Charles Receives Sixth "A" on Leapfrog's Patient Safety Grade
St. Charles Hospital, a member of Catholic Health Services, was awarded an "A" from The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes St. Charles Hospital’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.
The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, devised the letter-based rating system to rank hospitals nationwide. St. Charles was one of only three hospitals on Long Island to receive an "A", with two of those hospitals being members of Catholic Health Services (CHS). St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn was the other CHS hospital to be awarded an "A." Of the 146 hospitals surveyed in New York State, only ten, or less than eight percent, received an "A."
St. Charles has earned an “A” 6 times since the safety score’s debut in 2012.
Every day, our staff demonstrates a remarkable commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Jim O’Connor, President, St. Charles Hospital. “Patients know that when they come to us, they will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect, while in a hospital with an outstanding record of safety and success. We are proud to be recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the country.
“To be recognized nationally as an "A" hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals that earn an "A" grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error. We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this "A.”
