St. Charles Receives an ‘A’ for Patient Safety from Leapfrog Group
The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, devised the letter-based rating system to rank hospitals nationwide. St. Charles was one of only three hospitals on Long Island to receive an "A", with two of those hospitals being members of Catholic Health Services (CHS). St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn was the other CHS hospital to be awarded an "A. Of the 145 hospitals surveyed in New York State, only a dozen or just eight percent received an ‘A.’
St. Charles has earned an “A” 5 times since the safety score’s debut in 2012.
Every day, our staff demonstrates a remarkable commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Jim O’Connor, EVP and Chief Administrative Officer, St. Charles Hospital. “Patients know that when they come to us, they will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect, while in a hospital with an outstanding record of safety and success. We are proud to be recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the country.”
“Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades recognize hospitals like St. Charles that focus on advancing patient safety. This ranking provides an important resource for patients, and a benchmark for hospitals, to determine how care at one hospital compares to others in a region,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals that earn an A Hospital Safety Grade deserve to be recognized for their efforts in preventing medical harm and errors.”
