St. Charles Maintains Highest Rehabilitation Accreditation Available; Adds Brain Injury Specialty Accreditation
St. Charles has achieved its third consecutive three-year accreditation in Rehabilitation and added a specialty accreditation in Brain Injury Rehabilitation from CARF International, the global leader in rehabilitation accreditation. CARF accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that can be given to an organization and shows St. Charles Rehabilitation’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards.
“At St. Charles, rehabilitation has been our mission for more than 110 years. It is an honor to be recognized for our continued commitment to high-quality rehabilitation and for focusing on a cutting-edge rehabilitation treatement for our patients with brain injury,” said Jennifer Semel, MD, medical director, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, St. Charles.
To earn the Brain Injury Specialty Program accreditation, St. Charles demonstrated that it utilizes current research and evidence to provide effective rehabilitation, supports future improvements by participating in brain injury research and has the commitment, capabilities, and resources to maintain a specialized program for persons with acquired brain injury.
The current three-year accreditation in Rehabilitation recognizes St. Charles’ comprehensive integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, Pediatric Specialty Programs, Stroke Specialty Program and Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation for both adults and children. In addition, CARF commended St. Charles’ Fall Prevention and Home Safety Education Class for exemplary conformance to CARF standards.
St. Charles earned its initial three-year accreditation from CARF International in 2011 and is the first facility on Long Island to earn CARF accreditation for both inpatient and outpatient medical rehabilitation and for it's stroke program.
