St. Charles Introduces 3D Mammography to Advance Breast Care for Women
St. Charles Hospital is now offering a new screening and diagnostic tool to improve the early detection of breast cancer—digital breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography. Women can choose 3D mammography as an optional add-on to a standard 2D mammography.
“Early studies conducted on 3D mammography have demonstrated an increase in overall breast cancer detection over 2D imaging alone, particularly invasive cancers,” said Anne Green, MD, director, Women’s Imaging, St. Charles Hospital. “With the additional information, there is potential to detect more cancers and reduce false positives.”
