Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation
A spinal cord injury is devastating to both patients and family members. In just a few seconds, and often without warning, life is changed forever. The rehabilitation experts at St. Charles recognize and understand the unique needs of patients suffering from a spinal cord injury and have developed the most progressive and technologically advanced program available.
The multi-discipline, comprehensive in-patient spinal cord program at St. Charles provides physical, occupational and speech therapy. Other services provided include psychological counseling, social work and community re-entry. In addition, St. Charles offers technologically advanced therapies available nowhere else on Long Island.
They include:
ERGYS 2
A stationary bicycle that allows patients with paralysis to pedal on their own through electrical stimulation to muscles in the leg. Patients experience a cardiovascular workout that enhances their overall health.
Wheelchair Clinic
The wheelchair seating clinic is structured so that individuals will be provided with appropriate wheelchair positioning in order to maximize their mobility. Wheelchair evaluations are done for lightweight manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and pediatric wheelchairs.
