Rehabilitation Physicians (Physiatrists)
At St. Charles, your care is managed by a rehabilitation physician, known as a physiatrist.
A physiatrist is a medical doctor who has also completed residency training in the medical specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). This physician is a nerve, muscle, bone and brain expert who diagnoses and treats injuries or illnesses that affect how you move. The physiatric approach to patient care looks at the whole person and not just one symptom or condition.
St. Charles Rehabilitation physiatrists are board-certified in their field, oversee each patient's care from admission to discharge, and conduct research studies which utilize the latest technological advances in rehabilitation, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimluation for stroke rehabilitation.
