Our Team

Physicians at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Long Island are Epilepsy and seizure experts trained in neurology, neurophysiology, neuropsychology, neurosurgery and sleep medicine.

These physicians collaborate to form a multidisciplinary team which can thoroughly evaluate and treat Epilepsy and seizure disorders.

They are: 

Dr. David J. Anschel, Director of Clinical Neurophysiology
David J. Anschel, M.D., an expert in clinical neurophysiology, the treatment of epilepsy and other neurological disorders, is the Director of Clinical Neurophysiology and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Long Island at St. Charles.

Previously, Dr. Anschel held the position of co-director of the Long Island Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and director of Intraoperative Neurophysiology at Stony Brook University Hospital. He is board certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology and is a guest scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Dr. Anschel graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Buffalo in 1993 and earned a Medical Doctorate from New York University in 1998. He completed his neurology residency at Harvard University-Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Boston Children’s Hospital followed by a fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at Stanford University.

A prolific author, Dr. Anschel has published over 50 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters as well as authoring 2 books widely used by medical students and residents in neurology training.

Dr James Bruno, Associate Clinical Director C.E.C.L.I.
James Bruno, M.D., is board certified in Neurology and Sleep Disorders. Dr. Bruno completed his neurology training at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He went on to fulfill a fellowship in both Neurophysiology (Epilepsy/Neuromuscular Disorders) and Sleep Disorders at the State University of New York (SUNY), Stony Brook. Currently, Dr. Bruno is in solo practice and is the Associate Clinical Director of The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Long Island at St. Charles Hospital. In addition, he offers clinical evaluations at St. Charles Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center. Dr. Bruno also holds the position of clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at SUNY Stony Brook.

Grace Sparacino,Physician Liaison
In February 2010, Grace Sparacino was appointed as the Physician Liaison to the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Long Island at St. Charles Hospital .  She also holds the position of Office Manager for six departments within Cardiopulmonary Services including the Video-EEG department.  In 2009, Ms. Sparacino worked closely with Nursing Education to develop an inpatient smoking cessation program.  She received several certificates of achievement from the State of New York enabling her to provided cessation education to all patient types.  She was part of the Administrative team and represented St. Charles Hospital at the Suffolk County Department of Health Collaborative Assessment meetings towards a successful effort in achieving a smoke free facility.

Educated at Queensborough Community College , she pursued a career with Forest Pharmaceuticals in Domestic and International Licensing and Development of mergers and acquisitions.  Presently, Ms. Sparacino brings her background and experience to the Comprehensive Epilepsy program.  Ms. Sparacino is an accomplished musician and songwriter and volunteers her talent to direct an Employee Choir for the Christmas Concert at St. Charles Hospital each year.

Laura Logan, Patient Account Representative
Laura Logan began her career with the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center in December 2009 as the program's Patient Account Representative.  She is instrumental in scheduling adult and pediatric video EEGs and provides a high level of customer service to our patients and medical staff.  Laura possesses a keen knowledge of neurological terminology and is well versed in private and HMO insurance guidelines. Her organizational skills and ability to prioritize are essential components to the daily operations of the program.

Prior to her position at St. Charles Hospital, Laura was part of the administrative support staff in the Neurology Department at Stony Brook University Hospital where she worked with several neurologists. Her experience and background make Laura a key team member of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at St. Charles Hospital.
