St. Charles Hospital will offer free dental screenings, cleanings and fluoride treatments during the hospital’s Give Kids A Smile Day celebration, Friday, February 7, 8:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. St. Charles Hospital’s celebration is in conjunction with the American Dental Association’s Give Kids a Smile Day, a national campaign to promote good oral health in children who do not have access to dental care.

St. Charles Hospital will receive dental care product donations, valued up to $25,000, from Henry Schein Cares, the global social responsibility program of Henry Schein, Inc. St. Charles will receive the donations over a two year period and utilize the materials in its Stephen B. Gold Dental Clinic, which provides preventative and comprehensive dental care for developmentally and physically disabled individuals as well as the general population in eastern Suffolk County.

St. Charles Hospital welcomed the first baby of 2014 at 2:10a.m. on January 1. Linda Elizabeth Sowden arrived six days after her original due date and weighed 7lbs 12 oz. She is the first child for Ronkonkoma residents, Robert and Diana Sowden.

Mercy Medical Center and St. Charles Hospital have been ranked as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S. They are among just 45 hospitals in New York state to earn such designation out of more than 3,000 U.S. hospitals evaluated. The ratings are based on an aggregation from the accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

St. Charles Hospital was presented with $36,000 from Long Island Real Estate Group (LIREG), a philanthropic organization comprised of real estate professionals from across Nassau and Suffolk counties. LIREG’s funding will assist the hospital in establishing a child life activity center in the hospital’s pediatric ventilator-dependent rehabilitation unit. LIREG presented the check to Marilyn Fabbricante, director, public and external affairs, St. Charles Hospital, during a networking breakfast at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club.

An American flag that was flown in Afghanistan in recognition of the 10th anniversary of September 11th, was recently presented to St. Charles Hospital by Lieutenant Colonel Brian O’Leary, an active reservist with the United States Marines and a member of St. Charles Hospital’s Foundation Board.

St. Charles Hospital has been ranked regionally as high performing in Orthopedics, a first for the hospital, by U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News & World Report also ranked St. Charles as number 39 in New York (out of 250 hospitals) and number 49 in the New York metropolitan area (out of 179 hospitals). “We are extremely proud of our high rankings from such a prestigious publication as U.S. News & World Report. The hard work, dedication, compassion and skill of our entire health care team are the reason we have achieved this outstanding recognition.
